As I write this, it’s Monday morning and the events of the last month have been a blur.✨❤️ My husband and I just returned from a 10-day trip to Egypt. We landed back home on Thanksgiving Day at 1 p.m. My trip across the world had completely disconnected me from my usual Thanksgiving vibe.🦃🗺️ We floated through the airport like zombies, passing through customs as people exclaimed, “Happy Thanksgiving!”. The awareness of the holiday triggered in me an overwhelming need for turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes with some football on the side. My husband and I have been hosting Thanksgiving in some capacity for the last several years. I LOVE hosting! I love planning the menu, grocery shopping, making the pies, the smells in the kitchen, the football playing in the background, people telling me how delicious my food tastes…all of it!🥧🛍️🏈 The planning of this trip was sudden and rash. In mid-September I had received some disappointing news. I felt powerless and sad and, to regain a sense of some power over my life, I proclaimed, “F*ck it, honey, let’s book our flights to Egypt! I want to go before the end of the year!”.😥✈️🔌
My husband has talked about visiting Egypt since I’ve known him. A bust of King Tut has been displayed wherever my husband lives for the last 20 years. My husband’s grandfather talked endlessly about his desire to visit the Pyramids. My husband’s mother has always wanted to visit Egypt.
This trip was the fulfillment of generational aspiration for my husband and his family.👪❤️🧳
I’ve been to five funerals in the last month. Some of these were for folks that lived long, full lives. Some of them much younger.
International travel over the last few years has not been accessible or guaranteed.🌐☢️🦼
This is cliché but it’s the damn truth; the future is uncertain and tomorrow is not guaranteed. It’s always been uncertain; however, the events of the last few years have hopefully awoken us out of our collective illusion of certainty.
Urgency is the current theme of my life.🏃♀️🎢💃
I feel urgent to go and do and see.
I feel urgent to share sacred time with my friends and family and continually remind them of how much I love them. 👪⏱️💌
I feel urgent to share whatever knowledge, information, and healing gifts I have with my clients.
I feel urgent to stay humble and open to learning as much from my clients as they learn from me.🤔🎄
I feel urgent to move my body.
I feel urgent to display every last Christmas decoration I own somewhere inside or outside of my house, or in the office 😊🎍🤶
And thankfully, my urgency for a solid Thanksgiving Day meal was fulfilled by accepting the invitation from a friend of my husbands from his comedy community to join in his Thanksgiving Day feast. I finally fell asleep on the couch before half-time of the Vikings game 😊
After 500 words, I realize I’ve shared nothing about our actual trip to Egypt. Please stay tuned next week for, “Do It Now; Part 2” where I write about our actual trip! 🌾🧭
